Spent some time this week checking out Netvibes and the Google tabbed-homepage. Both are extremely customizable aggregators, but with significant differences: Google has it all over Netvibes when it comes to content; Netvibes has it all over Google for layout and performance. Google was really slow and clunky, and customization was requiring hacks. Netvibes was much more intuitive and user-friendly. So, while Google has content-galore, Netvibes has ENOUGH content to keep me satisfied without getting overwhelmed by it all.
Just MHO, of course.
Why did I do this?
Just trying to streamline my online life a bit more, get a little more efficient and organized. My bloglines account is an absolute mess, with hundreds of feeds from multiple interests/hobbies, some still going strong, some not so much. The thought of weeding through it all once again (and again, and again) wasn’t exciting me; I also wanted a solution that could wed my news and my blog-interests more elegantly. Bloglines works great for maintaining the blogroll, and I’ll continue to use it in this manner.
Another feature I like about Netvibes is the ability to share a tab once you’ve created one. I started my “Poker Blog” tab with the usual suspects and will round it out later this week. But, if you’re interested in Netvibes and want to get started, just click below to get my “Poker Blogs” tab. I’m wondering if it will update dynamically as I add to it, but if it doesn’t I will re-post the new tab later.
My secret spies have sent me another report…
Word is Iggy’s return to the corporate world may not be going so well: 😉
Every day, a male co-worker walks up very close to a lady at the coffee machine, inhales a big breath of air, and tells her that her hair smells nice. After a week of this, she can’t stand it anymore, takes her complaint to a supervisor in the personnel department and asks to file a sexual harassment grievance against him. The Human Resources supervisor is puzzled and asks: “What’s sexually threatening about a co-worker telling you your hair smells nice?”
The woman replies, “It’s Iggy, the midget”.
Now, THAT’S a gambler!!!
Original Story
“Gambler gives birth on N.J. casino floor
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A woman playing the penny slots Saturday morning left the Resorts Atlantic City casino with her own little jackpot — a new baby boy.
Eight-months pregnant Nyree Thompson, 32, went into labor on the casino floor about 9:30 a.m.
Thompson said she mistook labor pains for gas at first, but after going to the restroom told a security guard that she might be giving birth.
Thompson said the guard thought she was joking. Then her water broke.
“A guard came over and said, ‘Don’t push,’” Thompson said. “I said, ‘Forget you, this baby is coming right now!’”
Minutes later, a boy weighing less than 5 pounds was born. Thompson named him Qualeem.
Four security guards helped Thompson deliver the baby, wrapping the child in a jacket until paramedics arrived at about 9:40 a.m., said Steve Callender, vice president of operations at Resorts.
Despite being premature, Qualeem was doing fine.
Callender, who has worked at Resorts since it opened in 1978, said the birth was a first for the casino as far as he knew. “We’ve had people die here,” he said, “but we’ve never had people born here.”
